In statements to the media, the counselor has also reported that work is already underway on a protocol for high temperatures "non-existent in the Canary Islands", together with the area of ​​Security and Emergencies, Public Health and the Ministry of Education itself to know how act in the face of these prolonged episodes of heat waves.

Poli Suárez has indicated that the decision to suspend classes has also been taken taking into account the maximum alert due to the risk of forest fires decreed yesterday and by the AEMET forecast, which foresees that in the coming days they will rise again. temperatures even more.

As for whether classes will also be suspended in the universities, the regional official has specified that the Ministry has no powers in this regard, so it will be the universities themselves or the Minister of Universities, Migdalia Machín, who will have to decide whether they will also be suspended. add to this school suspension.

The counselor has indicated that the majority of the educational infrastructures in the Canary Islands do not meet the necessary conditions to be able to tackle the high temperatures in the classrooms, which is why he has called on Fecam and Fecai to try to find a solution and improve these infrastructures. in the islands.

In this regard, Poli Suárez has stressed that for many legislatures there has been a neglect in this matter, which is why he considers it a priority to have a diagnosis to know how and where to act and what the priorities are in terms of infrastructure, hand in hand with councils and town councils.
