The Government approves a subsidy of 7.5 million for the candidacy for the 2030 Soccer World Cup

MADRID, 20 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Council of Ministers, at the request of the Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, approved at its meeting on Tuesday the Royal Decree regulating the direct granting of a subsidy of 7.5 million euros to the Royal Spanish Federation of Soccer (RFEF) for the preparation and development of the candidacy to host the Soccer World Cup in 2030, a project in which Portugal and Ukraine also participate.

As reported by the Higher Sports Council in a press release, with this new investment, financed from the CSD's own expense budget for the year 2022, it is intended to "promote the Spanish candidacy" through various activities.

Among these, are cited "the holding of meetings and events in different parts of the national and foreign territory; the establishment of a technical office for the coordination of events; the dissemination of initiatives through the media of social communication; the development of the necessary infrastructures for training and modernization centers for national and regional teams, and technological support".

The Council stressed that "the benefits" of organizing the World Cup "affect several areas, its impact on the tourism sector in different parts of the country being especially significant, also turning the event into a projection lever for the country-brand and, in turn, of the regional brands".

"Spain, together with Portugal and Ukraine, thus faces in the coming years one of the most important challenges in the international sports context, which requires the combined efforts and potential of their respective governments and football federations to present a joint candidacy", added.
