The first criminal trial against Trump, for bribery to 'Stormy Daniels', will begin on March 25

MADRID, 15 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A New York judge has established that the trial against former President Donald Trump for payments made to former porn actress Stephanie Clifford, better known as 'Stormy Daniels', begins on March 25, so there is already a date for what will be the first criminal trial against the magnate, in the middle of the electoral campaign.

Trump has insisted on social networks and in statements to the media upon his arrival at court on the thesis of political persecution, alleging that "there is no crime" on the table and that everything is part of an order derived from the Administration of Joe Biden.

In this sense, he has denounced attempts at "electoral interference", although he has downplayed the effects that this and other processes may have on his campaign, because he has "a big advantage" in the polls, according to statements reported by CNN.

Trump attended the hearing this Thursday in Manhattan in person, in which Judge Juan Merchan announced that the trial will begin on March 25 with the election of the jury members, who must determine whether the magnate committed any crime for a series of payments to Clifford shortly before the 2016 election.

Specifically, he is accused of more than thirty charges for payments that were around 130,000 euros, so that the former actress would remain silent about an alleged extramarital relationship that both would have had in the past and that Trump has always denied. The former president has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The payments themselves do not represent illegality, but the way in which Trump would have made them, with the mediation of his then lawyer Michael Cohen, does, since he hid the disbursements through the accounts of the business conglomerate at a key moment, prior to the elections in which he won against Democrat Hillary Clinton.
