The firefighting teams work to consolidate the perimeter from La Esperanza to the north

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The extinguishing teams for the forest fire that started on the night of August 15 on Mount Arafo, on the island of Tenerife, are focusing on consolidating the perimeter from La Esperanza to the north.

This was revealed this Sunday during the press conference at 6:30 p.m. to update the information on the evolution of the fire.

For its part, the fire, which is still out of extinguishing capacity, has reached 11,612 affected hectares in a perimeter covering some 84 kilometers along eleven municipalities after Los Realejos joined.

As for the evicted residents, there are some 12,000 people after the evacuations that have taken place this weekend, the last of which was that of the workers of the Parador Nacional del Teide, although this Sunday neighbors from different areas were able to return to their homes of Candelaria and Arafo.

The technical director of the emergency, Montse Román, explained that throughout the day work has been done on all fronts with intense activity by air resources.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Miranda, has recalled the prohibition to access the areas evacuated for security.

In addition, he placed special emphasis on the work of urban firefighters in the northern zone, ensuring housing and infrastructure, while stressing that the priority is no loss of life or infrastructure.
