The DGT regrets the confusion of its director with the tolls on the highways and assures that they do not have this competence

MADRID, 13 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has regretted the confusion generated after the statements by its director, Pere Navarro, in which he has assured that the Spanish highways will implement tolls in the year 2024 "by imposition of Brussels" and has specified that the body It does not have "any kind of direct information or powers attributed to be able to rule" on this issue.

In this sense, Traffic has "deeply regretted the confusion" that Pere Navarro may have generated after the statements made in a television interview, according to DGT sources reported to Europa Press.

Navarro has indicated that the Spanish highways will implement tolls in the year 2024 "by imposition of Brussels" and has called for a great political agreement between the two main parties before the obligation of the European Union.

Thus, he recalled that "it is a requirement, it has to be done" and has asked to remove him from the electoral debate, as he stated in an interview on TV3.

The director of the DGT has avoided betting on a specific model and has explained that there are "several on the table", which include the vignette system or the payment for mileage, among others. In any case, he has insisted that the "only concern" of Traffic is the conservation and maintenance of the roads and that the resources of these new tolls will not be used only for this.
