The Court of Barcelona addresses this Friday the new request of Alves to leave prison

Accusations and defenses will meet in a hearing on his last resort

BARCELONA, 8 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Court of Barcelona will address this Friday in an appeal hearing the new request of the defense of the footballer Dani Alves to be released from provisional prison for the cause in which he is being investigated for allegedly sexually assaulting at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona on December 30.

The hearing will be at 11 a.m., it will be held behind closed doors and Alves will not be present, only his lawyer, explained the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) in a statement this Thursday.

Alves has been in provisional prison since January 20 and since then his lawyer, Cristóbal Martell, has repeatedly asked for the player to be released, something that both the investigator of the Investigating Court 15 and the Barcelona Court have rejected.

In his latest petition, Alves' defense affirmed that the player had consensual sexual relations with the complainant and, in contrast to the flight risk that the courts have argued, which until now have ruled out releasing him, argued that it is "unthinkable" that he try to to flee, since his ex-wife Dinora Santana has already sent their children to school in a center in Barcelona.

Alves's last resort to try to get out of prison, which will be discussed this Friday, also reproaches "absolutely radical inconsistencies, inconsistencies and mendacity" in the complainant's statement and to justify it, he relies on security camera recordings, an element which at the same time the accusations use to incriminate him.

The Barcelona Court already held a hearing in February to address another appeal by the player, who, just as now, was asking to annul his provisional detention and offered to comply with precautionary measures to guarantee that he would not escape, even wearing a geolocation bracelet, but in On that occasion, the defense arguments did not convince the court and the judges agreed to keep Alves in prison pending trial.
