The British Royal House does not plan any meeting of Carlos III with the emeritus King

MADRID, 13 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The British Royal House does not have any meeting scheduled on its agenda in the coming days between King Carlos III, who will be crowned on May 6, and King Emeritus Juan Carlos I, according to information from Europa Press in British diplomatic sources.

According to various media outlets, the emeritus planned to attend a private lunch in London with the new British monarch next week, before traveling to the Galician town of Sanxenxo to participate in a regatta on April 22 and 23.

However, sources from the British Embassy in Spain clarify that no meeting of the emeritus King with Carlos III, with whom he is related, is planned. Don Juan Carlos is the great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria of England, as were Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. In addition, his grandmother, Queen Victoria Eugenia, was the first cousin of the Duke of Edinburgh's mother, Alice of Battenberg.

The emeritus King already had the opportunity to meet Carlos III last September, on the occasion of the funeral of Isabel II, which was also attended by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, as well as Doña Sofía.

The planned trip of Don Juan Carlos to Sanxenxo on the occasion of a regatta in which his boat, the 'Bribón', will participate, would be the second to Spain since his departure to the United Arab Emirates in August 2020.

Felipe VI's father made his first visit at the end of May last year, when he also traveled to the Galician town and paid a visit to Zarzuela for a few hours. Then, the emeritus met with the King in private before having lunch with Don Felipe and other members of his family, including Doña Letizia and Doña Sofía.
