The Army planes that evacuate Spanish citizens and citizens from other countries from Sudan will arrive in Spain around 11

MADRID, 24 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The two planes from the Air Force and Space Force mobilized to Sudan to evacuate Spanish, European and Latin American citizens in the face of the civil conflict affecting the African country will arrive this Monday, around 11:00 a.m., at the Torrejón de Ardoz air base (Madrid ), as confirmed by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense.

There are more than thirty Spaniards and around 70 citizens of other nationalities, some 104 civilians, who took off on Sunday from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, shortly before 11:00 p.m. yesterday after an operation coordinated by both ministries, although there are still for withdrawing from Sudan 64 Spanish soldiers.

The contingent took off with around a hundred passengers of eight nationalities (Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Irish, Mexican, Venezuelan, Colombian and Argentine), as well as Spanish and Sudanese. Apart from the evacuees, another group of Spaniards decided, voluntarily, to remain in Sudan or leave it by other means, while others had managed to leave the country before the implementation of this device.

This was announced early this Monday by both the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, who has reiterated in statements to RNE, collected by Europa Press, the call for a definitive ceasefire and dialogue between Sudanese in its process of transition so that the country does not resign itself to being a country that cannot get out of the "spiral" of civil conflicts.

As has also been done by the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, who has pointed out that these have been "very intense, very dangerous" days, but that the evacuees are already, "luckily", on their way to Spain.

From the Torrejón de Ardoz air base, the minister highlighted in a video that the evacuees will arrive this morning and recalled that there are still members of the Air and Space Army, the Paratrooper Brigade and the Command of Special Operations that have participated in the rescue.

"Our Armed Forces have done an exceptional job, magnificent as always. Today is a day of satisfaction", highlighted Robles, to congratulate the military, the Spanish ambassador and all the staff of the Embassy of Spain on their "great work". in Khartoum.
