Sumar asks Congress to prohibit the sale of land and housing by Sareb or Defensa to stop speculation

MADRID, 17 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Congressional Housing Commission will debate and vote this Tuesday on a non-law proposal from Sumar to "expressly" prohibit the sale of public land and housing assets of the General State Administration, specifically that corresponding to Sareb, Adif and the Ministry of Defense, with the aim of stopping real estate speculation.

Of course, Sumar's proposal advocates allowing the free transfer of this land and housing asset to other public entities, for its transformation into a public rental park.

With its initiative, reported by Europa Press, the group urges the adoption of a new political housing culture that focuses on guaranteeing access to society as a whole, regulating rental prices and expanding the public housing stock, but also by slowing down root the "speculative voracity" of a "social minority."

Especially because, in Sumar's opinion, it is "obvious" that current housing policies have failed and in Spain sales by "vulture funds" and non-resident population represent 40% of transactions in cities like Alicante, a 38% in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 32% in Málaga, 30.85% in Girona and 31% in the Balearic Islands.

Against these practices, Yolanda Díaz's formation also proposes a three-year moratorium that does not allow the purchase and sale of homes to investment funds and non-resident population, to stop speculation "particularly in the most tourist cities."
