Barcelona, March 1, 2024.- The CevisamaLab awards jury has awarded the work of the students of the Ceramics Chair at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture for the 18th consecutive year. The projects have been directed by professors Vicenç Sarrablo, Jordi Roviras and Cristina García Castelao. Of the four possible finalists, three were UIC Barcelona students: Juan Gaitán, Estelle Orient and Pablo García, all students of the chair.
Juan Gaitán has won the award with his work "Ekho", a ceramic tube that can be used both as a pavement and as a piece for a pergola, and that also fulfills the function of lighting. "Ekho" allows you to create ceiling and floor combinations with the same pieces. In addition, Gaitán received second prize in the previous edition. Estelle Orient has won the award with a project called "Light Sequence", a design oriented towards facades. These are ceramic pieces folded at an angle that allow light to be reflected from the outside to the inside, and with the colors of the glaze of the tile they make a play of light and color reflections.
Finally, Pablo García has won the award with "Arrel", a design of a ceramic piece based on the upper part of a test that can serve as both a pergola and a skylight, among other functions.
The Barcelona Ceramic Chair has been operating for 20 consecutive years thanks to the sponsorship of the Spanish Association of Ceramic Tile and Floor Manufacturers (ASCER). The Chair aims to promote contact between Architecture students and the industry so that future architects can direct their proposals towards ceramics, innovating in new formats or developing new applications and features in already existing formats.
