Spain will not send "any type" of hunting to Ukraine

MADRID, 17 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, has assured this Friday that Spain will not send "any type" of combat aircraft to Ukraine, unlike Poland or Slovakia, which have announced this week the shipment of fighters to the Government of Volodímir Zelensky.

Speaking to the media after an event at the Ministry, Robles assured that Spain will always be "very respectful" of the decisions taken by other allied countries to help Ukraine, but will not participate in sending fighter-bombers.

"Ukraine's position has always been very clear, we are not going to send combat planes," said the minister. As she has explained, the F-18 or Eurofighter that Spain has requires very specific training and preparation, very different from that of the Soviet fighter planes that Poland or Slovakia are going to send, the MiG-29.

Despite the fact that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, said that the Government would study sending fighters as requested by the Ukrainian president, Robles has ruled out that option. "The president says that we are open to all possibilities, but the planes specifically that Ukraine wants, Spain does not have," he stressed.

Of course, Robles has recalled that Spain has joined the shipment of 'Leopard' battle tanks, with six vehicles that will be transferred to Ukraine at the end of this month of March or beginning of April and another four that will be tuned to continuation for shipment in the coming months.

In addition, Defense is preparing to send another twenty TOA armored personnel carriers to the Ukrainian Army, in addition to another twenty that were already sent a month ago for the transfer of troops.
