Spain warns Israeli ministers that the forced displacement of Palestinians is contrary to International Law

MADRID, 3 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government warned this Wednesday that the forced displacement of Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip proposed by some Israeli ministers is contrary to International Law and has once again asked Israel to protect the civilian population.

"The Government of Spain rejects the recent statements by members of the Government of Israel evoking population movements in Gaza that would be contrary to international law," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation said in a statement.

"Spain reiterates the peremptory need to respect International Law, International Humanitarian Law and to guarantee the protection of the civilian population," added the department headed by José Manuel Albares, in line with the position maintained by the Government since it occurred. the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel and the subsequent Israeli military offensive in Gaza.

In recent days, both Israel's Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, and National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, both far-right, have advocated for the "voluntary migration" of Palestinians after the end of the military offensive against Gaza.

His statements supporting the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza have received criticism from the international community, including the United States, Israel's main supporter in the conflict.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller on Tuesday criticized the pair's "inflammatory and irresponsible rhetoric," before insisting that "Gaza is Palestinian land and will remain Palestinian land."

The Israeli offensive has already caused the displacement of 1.9 million Palestinians within Gaza, which represents close to 90 percent of the total population, to which several Israeli ministers and deputies have even advocated a new occupation of the enclave, option denounced repeatedly by the United Nations.
