The team beat Scotland with suffering (2-0) to continue straightening the path to EURO 2024

MADRID, 12 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish soccer team signed a vital victory (2-0) against Scotland this Thursday at the Estadio de La Cartuja, Seville, to pave its way in the qualifying phase for Euro 2024, holding on to the Scottish front in the second time.

Luis de la Fuente's men came out wanting revenge for the defeat in Glasgow but they missed good chances in the first half and had to suffer. Later, Scotland showed that it was not going to be an easy revenge for a Spain fortunate with the VAR in a great goal disallowed by McTominay at the hour mark.

The changes worked in 'la Roja' and Jesús Navas was a prophet in his land doing what he has been doing for 20 years. The Sevillian put in a perfect cross for Álvaro Morata to make it 1-0 in the 74th minute. Shortly after, in a poor defensive action by the visitors, between the debutant Oihan Sancet and the defender Porteous the score was 0-2.

Spain achieved three golden points that it was the first to go after, from Ferran's opportunity two minutes in. Morata had another one and De la Fuente's team dominated with pace to generate a constant feeling of danger although with a lack of aim. After half an hour, Oyarzabal and Mikel Merino also forgave.

The Rioja coach did not hesitate to move the bench at half-time to expand the search for the goal, with the sensation Bryan Zaragoza and Fran García. The Granada player had it as soon as he debuted, although Scotland did not let themselves be dominated so easily. After another one that Morata didn't take advantage of, McTominay's great goal came from a direct free kick.

However, the VAR notified the referee, who annulled the goal due to a foul by Hendry on Unai Simón that did not seem very clear. All in all, La Cartuja breathed and Spain returned to the fray with new changes that felt good: Jesús Navas and Sancet. The veteran winger was the one who rubbed the lamp for Morata's goal.

A perfect cross and an also ideal and just-in-time unchecking by the Atlético forward, on a great streak. Meanwhile, the debutant with the Athletic Club senior team was in the unfortunate action by the Scots that led to the 2-0. Also a Joselu who entered with a hunger for a goal and put pressure on the rival's slip that ended with Sancet, from the ground with the rival defender, sentencing.

Thus, Spain responded to more than 45,000 people, so as not to miss the day of the national holiday, October 12, which put the path back on track that began crooked precisely because of the Scots. A 2-0 that allows us to equal the particular 'goal average' with those of Steve Clarke, and that leaves 'la Roja' with 12 points compared to Scotland's 15. On Sunday it's Erling Haaland's Norway, third with 10.
