Social Security gains 74,310 foreign affiliates in May and adds four months of promotions

MADRID, June 20 (EUROPA PRESS) - Social Security gained an average of 74,310 foreign affiliates in May, 2.8% more than the previous month, with which the fifth month of the year closed with a record number of 2,680 ,993 immigrant workers registered in the system.

With the advance of May, the affiliation of foreigners chains four consecutive months of increases after having gained 30,684, 59,645 and 80,795 contributors in average values ​​in February, March and April, respectively.

Of the total number of contributing foreigners at the end of May, 55.6% were men and 44.4% women, as reported on Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the affiliation of foreigners to Social Security rose by 143 contributors in May, to a total of 2,594,783 employed, 405,000 more than before the arrival of the pandemic, of which 252,000 have joined in the last year .

As a whole, foreign workers represented 12.5% ​​of the total number of people affiliated to Social Security at the end of May in seasonally adjusted values.

Of the total foreign affiliates at the end of the fifth month of the year, 892,959 came from EU countries (33.3%) and 1,788,034 from third countries (66.7%). The largest foreign employed groups are workers from Romania (352,388), Morocco (339,939), Italy (176,107), Colombia (154,841) and Venezuela (137,620).

In addition, the system has 64,796 affiliates from Ukraine, 17,537 more than in January 2022 (37.1%), before the start of the war waged in the country by Russia.

The majority of workers from Ukraine who work in Spain, around 88.2%, are salaried and 11.7% are self-employed.

In the last year, the average affiliation of foreign workers has increased by 252,368 employed persons, which in relative terms implies a rise of 10.5%.

By regimes, the majority of foreigners fit into the General Regime, which closed May with 2,254,343 foreign affiliates, 85.6% of the total and 3.2% more than in April.

For its part, the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA) ended May with 421,154 foreign contributors, 0.9% more than in the previous month. Of them, 15% are of Chinese nationality, followed by Romanians (11%) and Italians (8.9%).

Within the General Regime, the sectors that gained the most foreign contributors in May, in relative values, were agriculture (10.9%) and hospitality (6.9%).

The Special Agrarian System (which falls under the General Regime) gained 5.9% of foreigners compared to the previous month, while the Household system added almost 0.5% more foreign contributors than in April.

By autonomous communities, the average affiliation of foreigners rose in May in 15 of them and fell in Andalusia (-3,778 contributors) and the Canary Islands (-309). The greatest monthly increases, in absolute terms, occurred in the Balearic Islands (19,353 contributors), the Balearic Islands (18,111) and Aragón (10,412).
