Social Security gained 59,645 foreign affiliates in March and adds two months of promotions

MADRID, 18 Apr. (EUROPA PRESS) - Social Security gained an average of 59,645 foreign affiliates in March, 2.4% more than the previous month, thus closing the third month of the year with 2,525,887 immigrant workers registered in the system.

With the advance of March, the affiliation of foreigners chains two consecutive months of increases after having gained 30,684 contributors in February in average values.

Of the total number of contributing foreigners at the end of March, 55.9% were men (1,411,856) and 44.1% women (1,114,031), as reported on Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the affiliation of foreigners to Social Security increased by 23,508 contributors in March, to a total of 2,573,331 employed, 384,000 more than before the arrival of the pandemic, of which more than 230,000 have joined the last year.

As a whole, foreign workers represented 12.4% of the total number of people affiliated to Social Security at the end of March in seasonally adjusted values.

Of the total foreign affiliates at the end of the third month of the year, 849,847 came from EU countries (33.6%) and 1,676,040 from third countries (66.3%). The most numerous foreign employed groups are workers from Romania (338,623), Morocco (317,137), Italy (163,867), Colombia (138,660) and Venezuela (129,531).

In addition, the system has 62,059 members from Ukraine, 14,800 more than in January 2022, before the start of the war waged in the country by Russia.

The majority of workers from Ukraine who work in Spain, around 88.5%, are salaried and 11.6% are self-employed.

In the last year, the average affiliation of foreign workers has increased by 227,062 employed persons, which in relative terms implies a rise of 9.9%.

FOREIGNERS WORKING IN HOSPITALITY RISE BY 7.2%

By regimes, the majority of foreigners fit into the General Regime, which closed March with 2,108,843 foreign affiliates, 83.5% of the total and 2.6% more than in February.

For its part, the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA) ended March with 412,271 foreign contributors, 1.1% more than in the previous month. Of them, 15% are of Chinese nationality, followed by Romanians (11%) and Italians (8.8%).

Within the General Regime, the sectors that gained the most foreign contributors in February, in relative values, were the hotel industry (7.2%), construction and artistic activities (3.1% in both cases) and Public Administration (3%).

The Special Agrarian System (which falls under the General Regime) gained 3.1% of foreigners compared to the previous month, while the Household system added 1% more foreign contributors than in February.

By autonomous communities, the average affiliation of foreigners rose in March in all of them except in La Rioja, where it fell by 50 contributors compared to February (-0.27%).

The greatest monthly increases, in absolute terms, occurred in Andalusia (14,773 contributors), Catalonia (10,839), the Balearic Islands (9,236) and Madrid (7,774).
