Sánchez will visit the President of the United States at the White House on May 12

The President of the Government will travel to Washington on May 12 at the invitation of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, with whom he will meet at the White House.

The visit to the Oval Office will deepen relations between Spain and the United States, "two friendly, partner and allied countries", according to Moncloa, as well as reaffirm the transatlantic link and support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.

Sánchez and Biden will also address the interest of both parties in strengthening their cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean, the way to jointly face global challenges such as climate change and the defense of democracy and international order.

In addition, both leaders will discuss the general lines of the next Presidency of the Council of the EU, which Spain assumes on July 1. In the bilateral field, they will review the already existing cooperation "in numerous areas as befits the density and breadth of relations between the two countries."

The visit has also been confirmed by the White House spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre, who this afternoon stated at a press conference that both leaders will address the strengthening of the bilateral relationship in defense, transatlantic security and economic prosperity, as close allies in NATO.

He has also indicated that Sánchez and Biden will address their incessant support for Ukraine and their efforts to impose sanctions on the Kremlin while Russia continues its "brutal aggression" against Ukraine.

He has also indicated that they will address a series of issues as Spain prepares to assume the rotating Presidency of the EU, including climate change and expanded cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Biden already visited Sánchez in La Moncloa in June of last year, during the NATO Summit held in Madrid, which brought together a good number of world leaders in Spain. That day, the two leaders sealed an agreement to deploy two new destroyers at the Rota naval base (Cádiz), which were added to the four that have already been there since 2014 and 2015.

The visit, on May 12, will take place the same day that the electoral campaign begins for the municipal and regional elections on May 28, which Sánchez had planned to open in Seville.
