Sánchez praises the "serene" response of the PSOE to "harassment" and defends coexistence: "It depends more than ever on us"

MADRID, 30 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, has praised the "serene" response of the socialist militants to the "intolerable harassment experienced" at the party's headquarters.

"Coexistence depends more than ever on us, on a PSOE that does not allow itself to be dragged down the slope of expletives and intransigence," Sánchez stressed in a letter he sent this Saturday to the PSOE militancy.

In the letter, sent on the occasion of the end of 2023, Sánchez pointed out that during this year the PSOE has experienced "hard moments" such as the "intransigent and angry response with which the extreme right and the right accepted the electoral result and the continuity of the progressive project".

This response, he regretted, was based on the "proliferation of insults and the intolerable harassment experienced at the doors" of the socialist headquarters.

In this sense, he has called on militants to "note" that "polarization is not symmetrical." "On the one hand, insults are uttered, on the other they are received; on the one hand, the siege is promoted, on the other we see ourselves besieged," he noted, to thank "especially the serene response to the sieges and the polite response to the abuse".

Likewise, the head of the Executive has highlighted that the PSOE "fully identifies with the Constitution" and has stressed that this "is not an object to be raised against the opponent but rather a space for coexistence and welcome, even to those who are suspicious of the Magna Carta itself".

Thus, he called on the militants "to persevere in this attitude of respect towards those who think differently", a respect that, he added, "is compatible with the firm defense" of the ideas of the PSOE.

On the other hand, Sánchez, who has stated that he feels "proud" to be general secretary of the PSOE "at this moment", has pointed out that 2023 has been a year of "challenges and challenges" that is coming to an end in "the best possible way" , with "a progressive coalition government for Spain" that is "focused on the modernization" of Spain and "the achievement of new social advances." Likewise, he has claimed that this Executive "has successfully completed the presidency of the European Council in this semester."

Looking ahead to 2024, the objectives have been set to give a new boost to well-being, economic growth and social justice with social democratic policies such as "those that have allowed us to close 2023 as the country with the most growth, with the most job creation and with the least inflation among the large economies of Europe".

Specifically, he stressed that they will continue to revalue pensions so that they maintain their purchasing power and increase the minimum wage so that "it is never again below 60% of the average salary."

"A new year to give new impetus to policies that guarantee new rights and prosperity for the social majority, especially for those who need it most. With ambition and courage. With more desire than ever and with all the determination to overcome any challenge that destiny has in store for us," added Sánchez looking ahead to 2024, a year in which he wants peace to come to places "in need of it."
