MADRID, 4 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has denied this Tuesday that there has been a change in Spain's position with regard to Morocco and Western Sahara, while at the same time he has assured that this approach is the same that Spain maintained with its predecessors in La Moncloa, Mariano Rajoy (PP) and José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (PSOE).

"I deny the majority", he pointed out when questioned about this change in position and immediately indicated that Spain maintains "the same position" on Western Sahara as when Rajoy and Zapatero governed.

In addition, he has indicated that the proposals that the PP candidate for the general elections, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has heard, coincide with what his Executive is already doing in this matter. Thus, he has indicated that Feijóo speaks of a solution that fits within the position held by the United Nations and in line with the main world powers.

"That is what the Government of Spain is doing," Sánchez has defended himself, assuring that his position is "perfectly compatible" with the United Nations and is the same as international allies such as Germany, France, the Netherlands or the United States.

In March 2022, Pedro Sánchez sent a letter to the King of Morocco in which he stated that "Spain considers the Moroccan autonomy proposal (for the Sahara) presented in 2007 as the most serious, credible and realistic basis for resolving this dispute. ". The opposition accused him of making a 180 degree turn in the traditional policy towards the former colony and opening a new stage in the relationship with Morocco.

However, the government has been denying the strategic shift and insisting that the "centrality" of the UN is maintained in the search for a mutually acceptable solution for the parties, Morocco, on the one hand, and the Polisario Front, representing of the Sahrawis for another.

On the other hand, when asked if this change of position is related to the hacking of the president's mobile phone with the Pegasus software, he has stated that it is one of the "evils" posed by the right-wing and some conservative media and that in his trial is part of the sanchismo bubble.

In this sense, he complained that Feijóo affirmed that there is no information on what data was stolen from the president's mobile phone and, on the other hand, he regretted having to listen to information such as that the change of position with Morocco was due to the fact that his wife belonged to a network of drug trafficking in this country.

"The problem is that today they have nothing against me, I am a clean politician," defended the president, who considers that the argument that there is some information on his phone that has weakened Spain's position is being used in an "insidious" way. and that is why there has been a change of position on the Sahara.

Sánchez has denied it and has placed him as part of the "bubble" against him by the conservative media and the right-wing and far-right parties.

In addition, he has counteracted, pointing out that the person who had problems with his mobile phone was the previous president of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, who sent an SMS of support "to a corrupt man such as (Luis) Bárcenas", in reference to the former PP treasurer, convicted of corruption.
