The NBA has displayed a giant Pau Gasol jersey with the Los Angeles Lakers with the number '16' that the Los Angeles franchise will retire in the duel against the Memphis Grizzlies --another former team of the former player-- on March 7, in a pre-party and tribute to a Pau Gasol who is the town's favorite son.
As a preview of the retirement ceremony for Pau Gasol's jersey in Los Angeles, the NBA deployed a 68 m2 LA Lakers jersey to cover the façade of the Sant Boi del Llobregat Town Hall (Barcelona), in collaboration with local authorities and the Gasol Foundation, Pau and Marc Gasol's non-profit organization for the fight against childhood obesity.
The giant jersey will be exhibited between March 3 and 9 to honor Pau Gasol's career as a Lakers player, with whom he won 2 NBA championship rings, in preparation for the official ceremony that will take place during the game between the LA Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies on March 7 at the Crytpo.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The Lakers announced the retirement of Pau's number 16 jersey in the home game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Pau's first team in the NBA. Gasol played with the Lakers for seven seasons (2008-14) and contributed to the Angels' back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.
As part of the jersey retirement celebration, the NBA will organize a series of Jr. NBA clinics for more than 100 boys ages 12-18 and Special Olympics in coordination with the Gasol Foundation and the city of Sant Boi, developed by staff from the Basketball Operations department of NBA EME and the Gasol Foundation.
Two lucky Spanish fans will also travel to Los Angeles to enjoy the ceremony live from the Crypto.com Arena as a result of the contest held at @NBASpain and NBA ID during the month of February and which has received more than 30,000 entries.
