Russia warns of a "tough response" after the seizure of the school of the Russian Embassy in Warsaw

MADRID, 29 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that there will be a "harsh response" after the seizure this Saturday of the school of the Russian Embassy in Warsaw announced by the municipal authorities of the Polish capital.

For Moscow, this seizure "will not go without a harsh reaction and consequences on our part" that will affect "the Polish authorities and Poland's interests in Russia."

Thus, it has criticized this action as "controversial, illegal and provocative" for the "invasion" of the school facilities in a "hostile" act that constitutes "a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and an invasion of Russian diplomatic property in Poland".

Polish Police agents appeared this Saturday at the building, located at 45 Kielecka Street in Warsaw to "recover a building illegally occupied by the Russians," according to the Polish portal tvp.info.

The action involves the execution of an order from the City Council in "full coordination" with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is based on a court ruling that declares the Polish State the owner of the building despite being used for years by the Russian Embassy, has explained the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In particular, Warsaw has highlighted that the property does not have diplomatic status, so this seizure is a simple recovery of property from the Polish Treasury that has no relationship with the Vienna Convention that regulates diplomatic relations.

The building was nationalized and handed over to the Soviet Diplomacy in 1945. Eight years later, a secondary school of the USSR Embassy was created. The educational center was provisionally closed after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, according to Polish media.

The Polish authorities already recovered a year ago the building at 100 Sobieskiego Street, also used by the Russian Embassy, also based on a court ruling.
