Regrets that "it is fashionable to be a facha" and criticizes the PP and Vox pacts on language in the Balearic Islands

BARCELONA, July 2. (EUROPEAN PRESS) -

The number 1 of ERC to the Congress of Deputies for Barcelona, Gabriel Rufián, has maintained that the PSOE will agree with the PP after the general elections on July 23 if it can to "save the media and political hell that it has had these four years" for negotiating with ERC and Bildu.

"The key is not to give strength to the PSOE so that it supposedly acts to contain the extreme right. The key is to give strength to the Basque and Catalan independence movement so that it forces it to agree with the left," he defended in an interview with Europa Press.

Rufián has warned that there are political, media and business sectors that have been calling for a "grand PP-PSOE coalition" for some time, so he believes that the Socialists will bet on this formula if they are given the numbers.

In fact, he has affirmed that in 2019 the PSOE was willing to agree with Cs and that "mainly the communes and the cadres that are now in Sumar" agreed, while the former leader of Podemos Pablo Iglesias and the minister Irene Montero opposed .

In this sense, Rufián has lamented the veto of Sumar Montero and has added that the bridges with the communes "have been broken" after they voted together with the PP and PSC to invest Jaume Collboni as mayor of Barcelona, ousting the candidate of Junts, Xavier Trias --who had agreed to a coalition with ERC--.

"A true right or ultra-right cannot be stopped by a false left," he warned, and has erected as an alternative a front of leftist forces that includes BNG and Bildu -- with whom they are running in a coalition for the Senate --.

Asked about the controversy that Bildu led by including those convicted of ETA blood crimes in their municipal lists, Rufián pointed out that it was an "error" and that the party itself recognized it as such.

He has also opted to increase coordination between left-wing nationalist forces: "I believe that the future is a unification of left-wing, Galician, nationalist and Catalan independentist political forces."

The Republican candidate has guaranteed that the vote for ERC "is a vote to combat fascism" and the reactionary wave that, according to him, Spanish politics is experiencing, when asked about the possibility of Vox ruling in Spain.

According to him, now the "politically incorrect thing is to be homophobic, misogynist, sexist and reactionary", while before it was to defend civil and social rights, to be feminist and anti-capitalist.

"It's fashionable to be facha," Rufián lamented.

The Republican candidate has also warned that if ERC should bet on the "confrontation" before a government of PP and Vox, it will do so, as he maintains that the Republicans already did when the popular ones governed with an absolute majority in 2015.

Regarding the PP and Vox pacts in the Balearic Islands, he criticized that "the price to be paid by the PP to govern there is to go against" Catalan, which he recalled that it is protected by the Constitution itself as a co-official language.

"When they go against Catalan, they go against the linguistic diversity of their own country," he defended.
