The president of the Europa Press Board of Directors, Rosario Martín Cabiedes, has died today in Madrid at the age of 65, a victim of cancer.

Born in Madrid in 1957, Rosario Martín Cabiedes had a degree in Law from the University of Barcelona and in Journalism from the Faculty of Information Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid. She also had an MBA from IESE.

She took her first professional steps in international companies such as Citibank and General Motors, before joining BBVA, where she had a fast career, being one of the first female managers in the Spanish banking sector.

Specifically, for more than 19 years, between 1987 and 2006, he presided over BBVA Gestinova, the banking group company in charge of managing investment and pension funds. Such high professional responsibility of hers did not prevent her from reconciling with her family life, since she was the mother of 7 children.

In 2006, she left BBVA and joined Europa Press, a company founded by her father, Francisco Martín Fernández de Heredia, in 1957, as president of the Board of Directors.

From her position as President of the Board of Directors, she actively participated in some of the recent milestones in the development of Europa Press, such as the consolidation of the digital development started years before, the multimedia transformation of the group, the creation of new businesses, the multiplication of news platforms or expansion in Latin America.

Rosario always contributed a great overall vision and great rigor in management, aware that the best way to guarantee the independence and neutrality of Europa Press was to keep the company healthy, with impeccable management and a solid financial situation.

In addition, she was always scrupulously respectful of the work of the Editorial Office. She understood and encouraged the work of journalists, aware of her responsibility in a democratic society, but never interfering in her work.

A woman of deep ethical and moral convictions, she always fought for family reconciliation and parity and against any discrimination in the workplace.

In addition to her position at Europa Press, since 2011, Rosario Martín Cabiedes also presided over Ediciones Palabra, a publishing group with a collection of more than 700 titles from different publishers and themes.
