The president of Mercadona, Juan Roig, has acknowledged that the sale prices in the firm's supermarkets have risen "a nonsense", as he had never seen, but he has assured that the company has "left its skin" to have less repercussions costs to consumers and be a "containment ship" between the value chain and the public. According to the businessman, if prices had not risen, "the disaster in the production chain would have been impressive."

This was stated during the annual press conference to present Mercadona's 2022 results, in which he explained that the Valencian company has experienced a 12% price increase from its suppliers and has passed on an increase of 10% to the public. .

"We have managed to alleviate two points that for us is a lot, 600 million, we have worked our ass off to try to alleviate these two points," he remarked.

Roig has stated that Mercadona is "very concerned about inflation" because it affects the lowest incomes.
