Robles specifies that Spain will send the 'Leopard' to Ukraine in the second half of April

MADRID, 5 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, specified this Wednesday that Spain will send the first six 'Leopard' to Ukraine during the second half of this month of April, while a second batch of four other tanks are already being repaired to join to the Ukrainian army in the coming months.

In an interview with TVE, collected by Europa Press, Robles has confirmed that there is a group of six 'Leopard' that are already prepared for shipment to Ukraine, they are undergoing certification tests and in the second half of April they will be integrated together to the vehicles of other countries to face the Russian military offensive.

Later, a second group of four other 'Leopards' will do so, which are already being repaired at the Santa Bárbara factory in Alcalá de Guadaíra (Seville), although their state of conservation is worse and they will need more time to be put into operation. All of them had been stored without use in a Casetas warehouse in Zaragoza for more than a decade.

The minister has also insisted that the shipment of fighter planes is "ruled out" because Spain does not have the model that Ukraine is demanding, the F-16, and also the training of combat aircraft pilots is very long, more than one year duration.

In this context, he has assured that Spain is always working towards a peace agreement, even more so with the next EU Presidency in the second half of the year, but he has pointed to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, as "the only responsible" for the war.
