Robert Lewandowski receives the Müller Trophy

MADRID, 17 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Polish forward of FC Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski, received this Monday, during the Ballon d'Or gala, the Müller Trophy, which accredits him as the top scorer with his club and with his national team last season.

The award, created last September in honor of the late Gerd Müller, falls in its first edition to the Polish striker, who last year scored a total of 57 goals for Bayern Munich and his national team.

A trophy, which, however, does not pay off the 'debt' of France Football magazine, in charge of awarding the prizes, with Lewandowski, the great favorite to win the Ballon d'Or in 2020, a year in which it was finally canceled by the coronavirus pandemic.

In the current campaign, Lewandowski has accumulated 12 goals in 15 games played, nine of them in LaLiga Santander, where he leads the top scorers table ahead of Real Betis striker Borja Iglesias (7) and RCD Espanyol striker Joselu (7) .

"I am very happy to be here and I am proud to have this trophy, especially because of the person after whom it is named. Gerd was a great inspiration for me, during the season in which I broke his record and before too. He always tried to beat their records and this seemed to be impossible to beat", said the man from Warsaw, who received the trophy from the wife and daughter of the 'Torpedo'.
