Qatar hopes that Hamas and Israel will extend the truce beyond four days

MADRID, 26 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Qatar's Foreign Affairs spokesman, Majed al Ansari, has indicated that he hopes that Hamas and Israel will extend the truce that allowed the first prisoner exchange beyond four days.

"What we hope is that the momentum that has been generated from these two-day releases and this four-day agreement will allow us to extend the truce further and therefore engage in more serious talks about the rest of the hostages ", declared the Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson to CNN.

Al Ansari has indicated that Qatar continues to mediate in the release of more people, amid the distrust of the parties who reproach each other for not fulfilling their part of the deal. "Now we hope that on the third day of this break we can resolve all the details that have made this day so difficult," he said.

He also added that they are working with Egypt, the United States and the parties to the conflict to ensure that the agreed humanitarian aid, some 300 trucks with food, medical supplies and fuel, is allowed to enter the Gaza Strip.

On October 7, Hamas took some 240 people hostage, although fifty of them have already been released since Friday, as part of the agreement reached between Hamas and Israel that, in return, has also freed almost one hundred Palestinian prisoners, including women and children.

The current agreement provides for a truce that will last at least until Monday, when Hamas would release 50 people. Israel, for its part, agrees to release three Palestinian prisoners for each hostage. The agreement itself provides for extending the truce for another day in exchange for ten more Hamas hostages.
