PSOE and PSC warn Junts and ERC that with a referendum "there is no possible progress" and insist on dialogue for investiture

MADRID, 28 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE and the PSC have warned this Thursday that with a referendum, as Junts and ERC have demanded to support the investiture of Pedro Sánchez, "there is no possible progress" and they have insisted on their willingness to "bet on dialogue as the only way to guarantee progress and coexistence" in Catalonia.

In a statement, the socialists have once again put the focus on dialogue which, in their opinion, "must serve to overcome the division and not to deepen the rupture and discord that generated so much tension in a sterile way in Catalonia and in the rest of Spain". "On that path, there is no possible progress," they have settled.

Thus, the PSOE and the PSC have indicated that the path is "that of coexistence and cohesion, understanding and the economic and social progress of Catalonia and the rest of Spain." "Always within the Constitution," they have pointed out.

Finally, the PSOE and PSC have concluded the statement by emphasizing that in the last general elections, Catalan society in particular, and Spanish society as a whole, "have broadly opted for a progressive government that continues the path of dialogue, agreements and harmony that began four years ago, and not by looking at the worst past but by continuing to build a better future together.

This is how the socialists have spoken after ERC and Junts have agreed on a proposed resolution for the General Policy Debate (DPG) that urges the Parliament to give its approval to the Catalan parties not supporting the investiture of the socialist candidate, Pedro Sánchez , if "he does not commit to working to make the conditions effective" for holding a referendum.

In the opening speech of the General Policy Debate, the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, already urged Sánchez to establish the bases for holding a referendum in the next legislature and defended putting that condition on the table in the negotiation.

In their joint proposal, the Republicans and Junts defend that the resolution of the political conflict in Catalonia "passes through political and democratic means", and ask for the support of the Catalan Chamber for an independence referendum. "In this way, the mandate that came from the referendum on October 1, 2017 can be replaced by a new referendum agreed with the State," the text continues.

On the other hand, ERC, Junts and the CUP have negotiated a proposal that supports an amnesty law for those prosecuted in cases "in relation to the defense of the right to self-determination."

"The Parliament of Catalonia defends the need for an amnesty law to nullify what had been classified as a criminal or administrative infraction, in relation to the defense of the exercise of the right to self-determination of Catalonia," says the text, following the initial ERC proposal.

Next, and as defended by the CUP, the text claims to start from the bill registered in 2020 in the Congress of Deputies by CUP, ERC and Junts with the support of Catalan entities, and that the Chamber Board low inadmissible.
