PSN, Geroa Bai and Contigo-Zurekin close an agreement for the formation of a Government in Navarra

The representatives of PSN, Geroa Bai and Contigo-Zurekin have reached an agreement on Monday on the formation of a Government in Navarra so that the socialist María Chivite can once again be president of the Autonomous Community.

The agreement has been reached after a meeting that has lasted for approximately five hours in the Parliament of Navarra.

At the meeting, Geroa Bai presented a counter-proposal to the PSN's latest offer and finally, after several hours of negotiations, the three groups have reached an agreement.

PSN, Geroa Bai and Contigo-Zurekin add up to 21 of the 50 seats in the Parliament of Navarra, so at least EH Bildu's abstention would still be necessary.

With the agreement reached between the three groups, the Government of Navarra would have 13 departments, the same as the last four years, and with an equal distribution among the three forces in terms of the number of portfolios. Specifically, the socialists would manage eight departments, Geroa Bai would assume four and Contigo-Zurekin, one.

Negotiations between the three forces have lasted for more than two months and there have been moments of tension, especially between PSN and Geroa Bai, to the point that the coalition went as far as to affirm that one of the proposals of the socialists was an invitation to to leave the government.

The Socialists had initially proposed that Geroa Bai manage three departments, one less than in the last legislature, arguing that in the regional elections they saw their representation in the Regional Parliament reduced, from nine to seven seats.

Geroa Bai expressed his protest at the approach of the Socialists, who finally, last week, moved a new proposal raising to four the portfolios that the Abertzale coalition would manage.

However, a five-hour meeting was still necessary this Monday, in which Geroa Bai introduced some new proposals, such as control mechanisms in compliance with the programmatic agreement, so that there was finally an agreement.

From now on, the president of the Navarra Parliament, Unai Hualde (Geroa Bai), must hold a round of consultations with all the groups represented in the Provincial Parliament to confirm that Chivite has support to go to an investiture. In that case, the plenary session of the Legislature would be convened and Chivite would be invested in the first vote if she obtains an absolute majority or in the second, with a simple majority. Subsequently, the inauguration of her as president would take place. This process could take place between this week and the next.

In any case, the investiture process should end before August 28, the deadline for calling new elections.
