The PP's Institutional Deputy Secretary, Esteban González Pons, recalled that the dictator Francisco Franco was exhumed in 2019 from the Valley of the Fallen on the eve of general elections and that José Antonio Primo de Rivera will be exhumed just over a month after the municipal and autonomous, for which reason he has asked if the Government has "any" more exhumation for the next general elections.

"Franco was exhumed in some elections, José Antonio in others and for the next ones I don't know if they have any exhumation left to proceed," he questioned this Friday in an interview with TVE, collected by Europa Press.

In any case, González Pons wanted to emphasize that the exhumation, scheduled for next Monday, has been requested by the family. "If it falls within the law and it is done without added publicity... Well, each one has to be in their rightful place," he stated.

The remains of the founder of the Falange will be buried in the San Isidro cemetery, in Madrid, where several relatives are already. Last October, his family anticipated the application of the Democratic Memory Law and asked the Government to exhum his remains from the Valley of the Fallen, renamed Cuelgamuros.

The also MEP has also ruled on the second trip of King Emeritus, Juan Carlos I, to Galicia after going to live in the United Arab Emirates in 2020 and has defended that he can "leave and enter Spain as he sees fit".

González Pons has stressed that the emeritus does not hold "any" public office at present and that he does not have "any legal problem" or "open cases with Justice."
