Polish Deputy Minister to Germany: "If they had not delayed Ukraine's entry into NATO there would be no war"

MADRID, 24 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister Piotr Wawrzyk has accused Germany of indirectly provoking the war in Ukraine by trying to delay the latter's entry into NATO, in response to statements by the German Defense Minister.

In an interview with the Polish news agency PAP, the Polish deputy minister criticized the German Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, for making statements to the German ZDF channel in which he stated that "the door is open" for Ukraine's entry into the NATO, "but this is not the time to make decisions", which must be considered "with a cool head and a warm heart, not the other way around".

"The question is, when will the time be for these 'cool heads'? Five, ten or thirty years after the war?" the Pole replied in an interview with the aforementioned news agency.

"If Germany had not calculated the times as it does now, if it had not tried to delay Ukraine's entry into NATO, and if Ukraine had been invited to join the Alliance many years ago, in Munich, today there would be no war in Ukraine. ", he has sentenced.

During the interview, he reiterated Poland's opinion, in favor of Ukraine's entry into the Alliance, and accused "Western European countries, France and Germany" of being "generally always against Ukraine joining the European Union or NATO".

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky last week, marking his first visit to kyiv since the start of the war. There he showed his support for his entry into the Alliance, and insisted that Ukraine "has a place in NATO."
