Police unions censure the Díaz-Puigdemont meeting: they seek impunity with a fugitive with "embarrassing impudence"

They warn of the discredit of the institutions by "throwing down the work of the Security Forces to prosecute some criminals"

MADRID, 4 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Several unions of the National Police have criticized the meeting in Brussels between the acting second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, and the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, a fugitive from Spanish Justice, since it "throws to the ground" the work of the Security Forces against those involved in the 'procés' and seeks "criminal impunity" exhibiting an "embarrassing self-confidence" against those who defended "the unity of Spain and the current legality".

The SUP has criticized the meeting of the leader of Sumar, who from Moncloa have separated from the PSOE negotiation for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez, if with the appointment in Brussels what is underlying is a negotiation to reissue the Government of Pedro Sánchez at the expense of "throwing to the ground the work of the Security Forces and Corps to prosecute some criminals", and all this for "a political and arbitrary decision".

The union organizations have once again rejected the negotiation of the approval of an amnesty law that, according to SUP sources in statements to Europa Press, exists only to "transit from an authoritarian State to a democratic one", something that does not fit in constitutional Spain where Puigdemont and other leaders of the 'procés' were prosecuted "with all the procedural guarantees".

JUPOL sees in the meeting between Yolanda Díaz and Puigdemont a "new maneuver to discredit government institutions", and has regretted that the Executive prefers to meet before "the promoter of a coup d'état than with the policemen who defended the unity of Spain and current legislation".

In the opinion of JUPOL, the meeting in Brussels was held because Puigdemont "threatens the seats of the members of the Government", hence the negotiation to obtain the favorable vote of Junts, even if this entails "satisfying the demands of a fleeing from the justice".

"This situation is a new lack of respect on the part of this Executive to the State Security Forces and Corps, which the Government uses as a bargaining chip, they meet with criminals while leaving hundreds of police officers aside. wounded in Catalonia and the 45 agents charged for defending the Constitution, the legal system and the unity of Spain", JUPOL has intervened.

The CEP has also shown "alarm and deep concern" to see how a vice president of the Government of Spain meets with someone who has been prosecuted for sedition, today disobedience after the repeal of that crime in 2022, and embezzlement by the Court Supreme. In addition, they recall that Puigdemont "is on the run, weighing on him a search and capture order for being in a default procedural situation."

"Converting fugitives from Justice into valid interlocutors for people with institutional responsibility is a serious mistake, since we believe that this type of initiative erodes the credit and dignity of the Executive Branch, which must always conduct itself, without shortcuts or excuses, in accordance with the principle of legality", continues the CEP, which denounces the "mixing of politics with institutions".

The CEP recalls that the socialist part of the Government has disassociated itself from the meeting in Brussels with Puigdemont, but insists that "a very dangerous message is being sent to the rule of law" due to the "institutional care and cordiality" offered to the former Catalan president.

"There cannot be two speeds for compliance with the Criminal Code, depending on who the author is and their political relevance. There cannot be a 'premium' procedural situation for a privileged few and another for the rest of the citizens. There cannot be, in definitively, a criminal impunity that is exhibited with an embarrassing self-confidence", has concluded the CEP.
