Podemos believes that the King made a political speech and sees it as hypocritical that he tries to give lessons on democracy

He considers it disappointing that there were no mentions of the conflict in the Middle East

MADRID, 25 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Podemos has regretted that King Felipe VI made a Christmas speech of a political nature, in which he only sought "the forgiveness of the ultras" who were recently "pissed off" with him, at the same time that he has called the monarch a hypocrite for try to teach democracy lessons.

This was stated by the Secretary of Institutional Action of Podemos, María Teresa Pérez, who was in charge of evaluating the speech this Monday, criticizing his defense of the Spanish Constitution as an "untouchable" tool but which, in her opinion, of the purple party, is not serving to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens.

Furthermore, Podemos has found it "disappointing" to see that the head of state does not advocate peace because he did not dedicate a single word "to the genocide that Israel is committing in Palestine." "Not a mention of the boys and girls who are being murdered by a criminal State that is carrying out a true extermination," he declared.

Pérez explained that the speech has been framed in a Spanishism that does not recognize the plurinationality of Spain and has seen as "an error of tremendous significance" the image that the King has that the Constitution is the foundation of democracy.

"We think that it is precisely the other way around, that democracy is the foundation of the Constitution. It is the democratic principles that have to govern and, from there, legislative texts can be articulated that, if they do not serve to respond to the people's needs, they have to be able to change," Pérez said.

Thus, the Magna Carta will only be able to unite Spaniards when it is fulfilled "in its entirety", for which it has mentioned several articles that make up the welfare state and that are not being developed, such as those related to public health and education, housing or fiscal progressivity.

Likewise, they have called for the Constitution to be established as a guarantor of equality among Spaniards, for which they see a change in the form of State as necessary. His desire is for Spain to be a Republic and not be represented by a monarchy that is personified in an inviolable king, "without democratic legitimacy but with all the privileges", and that is discriminatory towards women.

Regarding this last issue, Podemos has also regretted that the King has mentioned violence against women in an anachronistic way, when it is one of the main problems that Spain has and that should be called by its name.

Among the issues that are not met by the Constitution, Podemos has recalled that the mandate of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) has expired five years ago.

In this sense, although it has held the Popular Party responsible for this "kidnapping", Podemos has sent a message to the PSOE, for being complicit in the PP's action and making a mistake in playing along with a right that only intends to "make things worse" and continue to control the governing body of the judges, ignoring the diverse parliamentary majorities that exist in Congress.

Likewise, in the social sphere, Podemos has reminded the PSOE that, if it wants the vote of its five deputies in the Royal Decree-Law that the Government plans to take to Congress with the anti-crisis measures, it has to be "much more ambitious." ".

For Podemos, the housing emergency should focus this decree, since they consider that it is a social concern for many people and should include the extension of protection measures against evictions and also the freezing of rental prices.
