North Korea fires two short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan

MADRID, 27 (EUROPA PRESS)

North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan on Monday, in which Seoul says it could be a reaction against the deployment of US aircraft carriers in South Korea.

The Japanese Ministry of Defense has explained that both missiles, launched around 07:47 and 07:57 local time, would have fallen outside the exclusive economic zone of the archipelago, as reported by the Japanese television channel NHK.

The Japanese authorities estimate that the missiles reached a maximum altitude of about 50 kilometers and a flight distance of about 350 kilometers. In addition, for the moment, no damage to ships or aircraft has been reported.

Over the past week, Pyongyang has launched several cruise missiles, as well as an underwater nuclear drone, the aim of which is to "create a radioactive tsunami." The North Korean authorities accuse Washington and Seoul of rehearsing "an exercise of 'occupation' of North Korea" through the joint military maneuvers of the allied countries.

These recent launches come as the US and South Korean militaries have been conducting military exercises for more than a week. These days the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, and the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, also had a summit, in which they talked about increasing cooperation between both parties to face the "threat that North Korea means" for the region.
