New York Police say they are "prepared to respond" to protests at Trump's appearance

MADRID, 3 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has affirmed this Sunday that its agents are "prepared to respond" to the planned protests before the appearance of former President Donald Trump after his indictment in the framework of an investigation for the alleged payment of a bribed porn actress Stephanie Clifford, known as Stormy Daniels.

An NYPD spokesman has indicated that the police officers are "on alert" and will remain "ready to respond as necessary", although he has remarked that "there are no current credible threats to the city", according to the newspaper. The Hill'.

"The NYPD makes sure that thousands of events, including First Amendment activities, take place safely in New York City each year," he said, before adding that "it will make sure everyone can peacefully exercise their rights".

Some Republicans, such as Representative MArjorie Taylor Greene, have already announced that they will participate in "a peaceful protest", while a few days ago they deployed barricades in front of the Manhattan courthouse.

The former president, who was charged this Friday, denounced "political persecution and electoral interference": "This has never been done before in the history of our nation," he said.

"From the moment I walked down the escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your President of the United States, the Democrats of the radical left -- the enemy of the working men and women of this country -- have engaged in a witch hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement," Trump said.

His lawyers indicated, as reported by the NBC network, that they will appeal the accusation, since they maintain that Trump "is a victim of the corrupt and distorted version of justice of the American system and of history."
