Mikaela Shiffrin breaks the record for World Cup victories with her 83rd win

KRONPLATZ (ITALIA), 24 Ene. (dpa/EP) -

The American skier Mikaela Shiffrin has conquered this Tuesday in Kronplatz (Italy) her 83rd victory in the Alpine Ski World Cup by winning the two sleeves of the giant slalom, and thus became the only record holder in the female alpine category.

Until now, the 27-year-old North American shared the first position on the list of the best skiers in history with her compatriot Lindsey Vonn (82), who retired in 2019.

If Shiffrin maintains his great form, he could break the all-time record held by former Swedish skier Ingemar Stenmark of 86 World Cup victories this season. Another giant slalom is scheduled for Wednesday at Kronplatz.

Shiffrin led second-placed Swiss world champion Lara Gut-Behrami by 0.45 seconds for her ninth win of the season. Meanwhile, the Italian Federica Brignone completed the podium in third position.
