The former president of the Lower House criticizes the Republicans who voted in favor of the motion: "They are not conservatives"

The former president of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy confirmed this Tuesday that he will not run again as a candidate for office, after the Lower House removed him from office in a historic motion of no confidence.

"I will not run again for the Presidency of the House. I may have lost a vote today, but I have fought for what I believe in, and I believe in the United States. It has been an honor to serve (the country)," declared the member of the Republican Party.

McCarthy has asserted that he does not regret having negotiated or "choosing governance over grievance": "It is my responsibility, it is my job. I do not regret having negotiated. Our Government is designed to find agreements. I do not regret my efforts to create coalitions and find solutions," he said.

The Californian legislator, who has assured that he leaves office with a "feeling of pride, achievement and optimism", has indicated that "he took a risk for the Americans" because "he could not look the troops in the eyes and tell them that he would not pay them." ", in reference to the bill that postpones budget paralysis and will keep the Government open until November 17.

The closure of the Government would mean the paralysis of federal agencies, which would stop receiving funding and civil servants would receive their payrolls late, among other consequences. The dispute regarding the budgets arises from the differences between the hard wing of the Republicans, who ask to reduce social spending and financing to Ukraine, at the same time that spending on border security is strengthened.

The motion was approved this Tuesday with 216 votes in favor against 210 against after the Republican representative for Florida Matt Gaetz raised the proposal, with the support of the most conservative wing of the party, accusing McCarthy of acting covertly by service of the Democratic Party.

McCarthy has criticized Gaetz, who was leading the effort to impeach him, saying the motion "had nothing to do with spending" but was "something personal" and "trying to get attention." But he has also attacked the seven other Republicans who have joined Gaetz in voting for him to leave office.

"They voted against the biggest cut in history that Congress has ever voted on. They voted against work requirements. They voted against border security. They are not conservatives and they have no right to have the title (of Republicans)," Has expressed.

Shortly after, Gaetz rejected in statements to the American media the comments of the former president of the House of Representatives, insisting that his initiative was due to McCarthy's job performance and not out of personal interest.
