Marc Márquez: "In Australia we forgot the future a bit and now we will continue testing parts"

"I will be able to understand my maximum level in winter, I will see if we are close or there is still room for improvement"

The Spanish MotoGP rider Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) acknowledged that at the Australian Grand Prix they forgot "a little" about the future to "focus" on a weekend where he finished second, although in Malaysia "they will continue testing parts" due to the "very tight" deadline until the Valencia tests.

"In Phillip Island we had a lot of new parts. I forced the change of program a bit because I saw myself with the possibility of having a good result. We forget the future a little more and focus on the weekend, but here we are in a good circuit for try things. We have a very tight deadline until the Valencia tests. I will take risks," Márquez said at a press conference.

The one from Cervera recognized that he is returning to his "reality" in one of his "favorite" circuits, with the intention of "continuing to push" for 2023. "My goal is to continue this positive evolution, which was the goal and I think we are achieving it ", he explained.

"In Australia I didn't finish testing all these things, for example the wings. We only tested it in one session and we didn't collect much information. There are other elements that within Honda they have to test and we don't have much time, we have to do it this weekend. and I accept this role", acknowledged the eight-time world champion.

Asked about his physical condition, Márquez showed his optimism. "After three races in a row I ended up thinking that I needed to rest. When I rode in Australia I felt a great improvement, also in muscle recovery, not only in the Grand Prix. This circuit is one of the most difficult and demanding on the calendar due to the heat , but we are prepared to fight," he added.

"It's a different Marc. I have some stronger points and others where it's still difficult for me. I'm trying to get more experience, understand the weekends better and take advantage of all the situations. But I'll be able to understand my maximum level in winter, I'll see if we are close or there is still room for improvement", indicated Márquez, who does not want to "think more about the arm".

Regarding the weather conditions on the track, the Repsol Honda rider wants to "show himself strong" in dry conditions, but admitted that in the wet "everything is more open", as happened in Japan and Australia.

Asked about the controversial decision not to issue a red flag after Jorge Navarro's accident in Motegi, Márquez spoke: "We will put it on the table in the commission and you will wonder why that situation was allowed and the race was not stopped. It is something unacceptable and that cannot be repeated", he concluded.
