Map of active fires in Asturias and the rest of Spain

MADRID, 31 Mar. (EDITIONS) -

Asturias records more than 120 active fires on Friday and up to 375 people have been evacuated, including 65 residents of Fitoria, on the slopes of Monte Naranco, in Oviedo, in an unprecedented "wave of fires", as indicated by the Asturian counselor for Rural Environment and Territorial Cohesion, Alejandro Calvo.

"It is a wave of arson that is unprecedented," said the Asturian leader in an interview with TVE collected by Europa Press. The Prosecutor's Office has opened investigative proceedings with the aim of clarifying the causes of the same and acting against the possible perpetrators, in the cases in which they are intentional fires.

Meanwhile, Cantabria had 28 active forest fires this noon, ten less than first thing in the morning, although four new ones have been caused in this period, as reported by the regional government.

This NASA map shows the area affected by the fire in the last 24 hours in Asturias. This is information offered by NASA from data collected by satellites with the aim of helping emergency services around the world to create active fire maps and monitor where the fires are moving in their evolution.
