López urges "cutting to the root" the criticism against the PSOE that leads to acts such as the beating of Sánchez's doll

Asks the PP to stop saying "buts" and to "strongly" condemn the concentration in front of Ferraz on New Year's Eve

MADRID, 2 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE spokesperson in Congress, Patxi López, has urged that the criticism against the PSOE that leads to "violent behavior" such as the beating of a doll of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in front of Ferraz during New Year's Eve.

In an interview on Cadena Ser, collected by Europa Press, López assured that the New Year's Eve rally in front of the PSOE headquarters "was an act of violence full of hatred" that was seen in the "anger" and "rage" with the one in which the protesters attacked the doll representing Pedro Sánchez, and which responds to the "permanent hyperbole of the discourse" of Spanish politics.

For this reason, he has asked the Popular Party to stop saying "buts" and show in a very "forceful" way its "rejection" of the physical violence of the protesters in Ferraz. "Buts and buts are no longer valid for us, because the buts are justifications for the actions," he added.

"The PP has to understand once and for all that it has to be blunt. Because these attacks, if carried out by these types of fascists, are not attacks against Pedro Sánchez, against the socialists. In the end they are attacks against democracy itself, against the system itself," he indicated, asking in turn to stop "feeding" hatred.

López has reminded the PP that what is said in the stands "is not free" and that "there will always be people who use it as justification for their actions." Likewise, he has pointed out that "this hyperbole that only contains insults and disqualifications" may serve to mobilize PSOE voters, but on the other hand they are "a disaster democratically."

He has also regretted that the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has not yet condemned the New Year's Eve events, while when asked if any member of the 'popular' leadership has contacted the PSOE after the beating of a Pedro Sánchez doll, López has indicated that "he is not aware of it."

The socialist spokesperson in the Lower House recalled that the party's legal team is studying "all legal avenues" regarding the concentration in Ferraz on New Year's Eve, since for the PSOE these acts are "within what is a hate crime." ".

"We want those guilty of this to be brought to justice and if it is a crime they pay. We want to stop these actions," he added, admitting however that "there is a very fine line" and that the socialists have opened a debate on the freedom of expression, which like "any freedom in democracy has to have limits."

Giving as an example the debate that Congress will host on the decriminalization of insults to the Crown or the glorification of terrorism, the PSOE spokesperson recalled that they are not supporters of the latter but that they want there to be "a serious debate in this country." on "those issues", since it is necessary to know "where the limits of freedom of expression really are".
