Lola Romero (Atlético): "That Spain is in the World Cup final is a push for more girls to play football"

A leap, the result of "more than 20 years", with which dreams that "are already beginning at recess" will come true

MADRID, 19 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The general director of Atlético de Madrid Femenino, Lola Romero, has defended that the arrival of Spain for the first time in the final of the Women's Soccer World Cup means "taking an international leap" and contributes to giving "a push for girls play this sport."

In statements to Europa Press, Romero asserted that the passage of the women's soccer team to the World Cup final is "the fruit of many people who have rowed for more than 20 years." Likewise, she has celebrated that it has managed to "professionalize the women's team" and has stressed the role of the coaching staff, as well as that of the federations and clubs.

"It has been a great surprise for me to reach the final because the quarterfinals and the semifinals are very tough. It has been a very pleasant surprise and I have experienced it with a lot of emotion because they have worked hard," said Moreno, who recently received representing Atlético Madrid Femenino one of the Bronze Doves, framed in the celebrations of the Virgen de La Paloma, just on the day that the Spanish team made history with the pass to the semifinal of the World Championship.

The general director of Atlético de Madrid Femenino, a pioneer player on the clay fields next to the Calderón, stressed that the clubs "are doing a great job" because there are "more and more leading players for many girls". In this sense, she has insisted that being in the final "is a great push to encourage them to play."

"More and more players are named or know who they are. Being in the final means making a leap at the international level, because you are in the highest category. Many foreign players will want to come to our leagues," he asserted.

For Romero, getting female soccer players to be professionals, as well as receiving better salaries, has caused more women to believe that "they can be soccer players." Along these lines, she has stressed that many young people are going to fulfill dreams that "are already starting at school breaks."

"Without the support of the institutions, it is very difficult to be exposed. It is good for women's sport that there are cities like Madrid, Alcobendas, Móstoles or Leganés that put up screens so that everyone can support the team. We always have to row in the same address," he insisted.

The invitations to go free of charge to the WiZink Center, with capacity for up to 6,000 people, and to follow the final of the Women's World Cup between Spain and England on four giant screens, have sold out in 55 minutes.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the Higher Sports Council (CSD), the Community of Madrid and the City Council have jointly organized "a great event to enjoy" the final of the Women's World Cup, which the The Spanish team will play next Sunday against the England team, the first final that Spain disputes in a women's World Cup.

"The idea is that the event becomes a great celebration of women's sports, at the height of the great success of having reached the final of a World Cup for the first time," the CSD highlighted in a press release.

The City Council and the Spanish Football Federation, among other administrations, are also studying how the capital would receive the soccer players and the festivities if they won the World Cup. The people of Madrid will be able to support the women's soccer team in a 'fanzone' in the Plaza de Felipe II, next to the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid.

In addition, as a show of support for the players of the national team for their achievement in reaching the final, the Cibeles fountain will be illuminated on Saturday night with the colors of the Spanish flag.
