Jorge Vilda regrets "the improper behavior" of Luis Rubiales and condemns machismo

MADRID, 26 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The women's national soccer coach, Jorge Vilda, deplored this Saturday "the events that have taken place since Spain won the Women's World Cup for the first time in its history", for "tarnishing a deserved victory", and also lamented the "improper behavior" of the until now president of the RFEF Luis Rubiales.

"I deeply regret that the victory of Spanish women's football has been harmed by the improper behavior that our top leader, Luis Rubiales, has carried out up to now and that he himself has recognized," Vilda said in a statement sent to Europa Press, in the middle of an intense day in the Federation.

FIFA suspended Rubiales on a provisional basis this Saturday as president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, with Pedro Rocha taking office, amid the social and political siege since Jenni Hermoso's complaint for an unauthorized kiss at the Cup celebration of the world. At the same time, the Higher Sports Council (CSD) raised a "reasoned petition" against Rubiales himself to the Sports Administrative Court (TAD).

"There is no doubt that it is unacceptable and does not reflect at all the principles and values that I defend in my life, in sport in general and in football in particular. I condemn without palliatives any macho attitude, far from an advanced and developed society" Vilda adds.

The Madrid coach insisted on lamenting "an clearly undesirable situation" when the country should be celebrating a historic World Cup for women's soccer. "To this end, I have transferred the content of these statements to the current president of the RFEF and to the maximum leader Luis Rubiales up to now," he affirms.

"My work as a women's national coach and sports director of the women's teams has always been oriented towards achieving sporting success, but also promoting initiatives that foster inclusion, respect and equity", he adds.

On the other hand, Vilda does not mention Jenni Hermoso, nor the resignation of the champions to return to Spain if there are no changes. In addition, the technical team that led to the World Cup also resigned this Saturday, making their position available to the RFEF. "The achievement of the World Cup and the successes achieved in lower categories are a reflection of the work that has been carried out by the Federation, which indisputably supports women's sports," she says.

"I reiterate my unwavering commitment to the promotion of a sport that is a model of equality and respect in our society", ends a Vilda who broke his silence as did the men's national coach, Luis de la Fuente, also this Saturday, both present at the Assembly on Friday where Rubiales wanted to reaffirm his position and ruled out his resignation.
