The Iranian authorities closed their nuclear facilities on Sunday "for security reasons", a measure that came shortly after their attack with missiles and drones against Israel, according to the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.

"Our inspectors in Iran were informed by the Iranian Government that yesterday (Sunday) all nuclear facilities in which we carry out inspections every day would be closed for security reasons," he said in a press conference after an appearance before the United Nations Security Council.

Grossi revealed that the Iranian authorities announced that the facilities would reopen during the day on Monday, although he added that he decided that the inspectors "will not return until we see that the situation is completely calm."

"We will return tomorrow (Tuesday)," he stressed. "This has not had an impact on our inspection activities. We are there and we continue our work," she said.

However, he has acknowledged that the IAEA "is always concerned about the possibility" of an attack on nuclear facilities, given a possible Israeli response to Iran's attacks, which is why he has asked all parties to "exercise maximum restraint." ".

Iran has defended its attacks against Israel in the face of international criticism and has argued that they are part of a legitimate response and its right to "self-defense" after the aforementioned bombing against its Consulate in Damascus, attributed to the Israeli Army and which resulted in the death of seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
