Iceta highlights the "pride of the country" in organizing the 2030 World Cup against the political "noise" of "if Spain breaks up"

MADRID, 5 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The acting Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, has highlighted the "pride of the country" that FIFA trusts in Spain to host the World Cup in 2030 along with Portugal and Morocco, criticizing the fact that politics generate " a lot of noises" saying that the country is going badly, that "if Spain breaks up.

For Iceta, "sometimes from politics there come a lot of noise about whether we are in a bad state, whether Spain is breaking up, whether we are close to the apocalypse," he lamented this Thursday in an interview on TVE, reported by Europa Press.

Against this noise, the minister has defended the decision of FIFA, which "trusts" Spain because it "knows" that it is a "very competitive" country and "capable" of organizing a sporting event "of this magnitude." "That also has to give us the stimulus to improve ourselves and do things even better," he stated.

The candidacy of Spain, Portugal and Morocco has been chosen to organize the 2030 Soccer World Cup, although Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, which completed the rival proposal to host the tournament, will host the opening matches of the event, on the occasion of the centenary of the first edition of this tournament, which was held in 1930 in the Uruguayan country.
