Hamas confirms sending a delegation for a new round of talks in Cairo this Sunday

MADRID, 6 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas has confirmed the sending of a delegation to discuss a possible ceasefire agreement with Israel this Sunday in Cairo (Egypt).

Sources from the leadership of the movement have confirmed to the pan-Arab network Al Jazeera and the Palestinian news agency Maan the sending of this representation to the Egyptian capital at a difficult moment in the talks.

Israel and the United States condition a possible ceasefire in the enclave on the mandatory release of hostages by the Palestinian movement and other militias, while Hamas prioritizes the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the cessation of bombing before accepting a ceasefire that, the movement demands, will have to be indefinite.

The Al Jazeera source, in this sense, recalls that the political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniye, has told the mediators that any round of talks should begin "on the basis" of a "permanent" ceasefire.

Egypt and Qatar serve as mediators in these talks.
