At the same time, Grifols has explained that the construction project of a new state-of-the-art production center of 105,000 square meters in the Medical City of the New Administrative Capital is still underway, a center that will have fractionation and purification plants, facilities logistics and will be Grifols' first fully automated plasma analysis laboratory in the world.

When at full capacity, Grifols Egypt will analyze more than one million plasma samples per year. Grifols Egypt's current workforce of more than 650 direct employees with highly-skilled jobs is expected to triple to 2,000 when all twenty planned donation centers are operational and the production facility is fully operational. operational.

"Since Grifols and the National Service Projects Organization of Egypt signed their historic agreement in 2020 to establish Grifols Egypt and the first integrated platform for plasma collection and production of blood products in Africa and the Middle East, the project has progressed steadily, including during the pandemic", the company has stressed.

This initiative is part of Grifols' global plasma self-sufficiency program, "a commitment to innovative public-private alliances to guarantee the sustainable and long-term supply of plasma-derived medicines."

This includes everything needed to safely collect, analyze and store plasma before transforming it into treatments for patients.

Grifols also has a long-term agreement with Canadian Blood Services, the national authority responsible for blood in Canada, to significantly increase the country's self-sufficiency in immunoglobulins through an all-Canadian collection and processing infrastructure.

"Grifols is extremely pleased to achieve self-sufficiency in critical immunoglobulin medicines for Egypt, the first step towards achieving full strategic autonomy across the entire class of plasma therapeutics," said Raimon Grifols, Corporate Director of Grifols.
