Francina Armengol, elected president of Congress with an absolute majority in the first vote

MADRID, Aug. 17 (EUROPA PRESS) - The socialist Francina Armengol has been elected this Thursday as president of Congress after winning by an absolute majority in the first vote held in the constitutive session of this XV Legislature, while the PP and Vox have acted for separated due to lack of agreement, dividing their votes between Cuca Gamarra and Ignacio Gil Lázaro

Specifically, the former Balearic president has obtained 178 ballots, exceeding the absolute majority that was required for a direct election and making a second vote unnecessary.

Although the vote is secret, by means of a ballot deposited in a ballot box, the pronouncements of the different parties in recent days suggest that Armengol has received the support of the 121 deputies from the PSOE, 31 from Sumar, seven from ERC, seven from Junts, six from Bildu, five from the PNV and one from the BNG.

In second position has been the general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, who, according to the president of the age group, the socialist Cristina Narbona, has obtained 129 votes. However, everything points to an error since Gamarra's support reaches 139 ballots (137 from the PP, one from UPN and one from CC), given that the 350 deputies of the Chamber have voted.

The Vox candidate, Ignacio Gil Lázaro, has only been supported by the 33 deputies from his group, who have chosen to go separately when they did not get support from the PP to have the Vice-Presidency of the Chamber that they were demanding.
