Feijóo warns that the amnesty means "relaunching independence" and announces that he will appeal the law if it is approved

He assures that the amnesty is a "democratic involution", an "electoral fraud" and a "reactionary decision"

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, announced this Monday that he will appeal to the Constitutional Court against the Amnesty Law if it is approved because it represents "electoral fraud" and a "democratic involution" that is "incompatible with the Spanish legal system." After emphasizing that the PP will not be "complicit in an injustice", he has also warned that this step will not lead to "burying independence" but to "relaunching independence."

"I think that being complicit in an injustice in a democratic State like Spain or in a democratic society like Catalonia is an act of absolute cowardice in addition to being an unjust act," Feijóo said in an interview on Catalunya Radio, which Europa Press has collected. .

Furthermore, the president of the 'popular' has accused the socialist Pedro Sánchez of hiding behind "reconciliation" and "coexistence" when what he pursues with this Amnesty Law is to remain in the Presidency of the Government "after losing the elections." .

Thus, he stressed that "no type of reconciliation" is being agreed upon but that a political transaction is being "closed", despite the fact that those accused in the 'procés' "have said that they will reactivate the breach of the law again through declarations of independence".

"Therefore, this is not burying independence, this is relaunching independence," he warned, to censure that Sánchez "uses" the "votes of the Catalan independence movement" for "his own benefit" to remain in Moncloa, something that, in his opinion, understand, constitutes a "democratic anomaly.

When expressly asked how the PP is going to work against the Amnesty Law, Feijóo has admitted that they will work "with reason, with morality, with ethics and with the law" because the amnesty is "a democratic involution", a "decision reactionary" and "massive electoral fraud", since, as he recalled, before voting on July 23, Sánchez himself maintained that neither amnesty nor a referendum fit into the Constitution.

According to Feijóo, "the reconciliation of one part of the pro-independence Catalan politicians who are being tried by the Supreme Court" and "also being searched and captured by the Supreme Court", does not involve "the need to add some votes so that the candidate who has lost the elections is the president of the Government".

Thus, he has reiterated that this is not "a matter of coexistence" but "a matter of convenience", given that it is a "political transaction" for Sánchez to remain in power "in exchange for six votes." "This is an inappropriate conspiracy for the year 2023 in Spain," she added.

SAYS THAT AMNESTY ARE "INCOMPATIBLE" IN A DEMOCRATIC STATE

Feijóo has stated that amnesties in a democratic State "are totally incompatible" because it is "an exceptional measure" in the face of "an unjust right." As he explained, in the pardon, the State forgives, while, in the case of amnesty, the State is the one forgiven, which he has called "illogical."

"Here we are not before an unjust right, here we are before the Constitution, before the Statute, before the Penal Code, here we are ultimately before a fair right and, therefore, the amnesty would be a decision from the point of view of justice unfair," he added.

Next, he recalled that political parties that have more than 50 deputies like the PP can "take legal action before the courts, including the TC." Although they still do not know the text, he has warned that an Amnesty Law is "incompatible" with the Spanish legal system.

For this reason, he has stated that "everything that is unfair" must be appealed because "otherwise they would be complicit in an injustice." "I believe that being complicit in an injustice in a democratic State like Spain or in a democratic society like Catalonia is an act of absolute cowardice in addition to being an unjust act," she said.

"There CANNOT BE A POLITICAL ELITE ABOVE THE LAW"

In this sense, he indicated that "Catalans who break the laws, from a traffic fine to a Treasury fine, have to comply." And therefore, he continued, there cannot be "a small political elite that is above the law" because "that is absolutely unfair."

Feijóo has admitted that "everything seems to indicate" that there will be a Government chaired by Sánchez, although he has stressed that "the key" to that Executive is held by former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont. Furthermore, he has criticized the fact that this Government is going to rely on parties that "want to leave Spain."

According to Feijoo, it is necessary to recognize that "the rule of law is the guarantee of democracy, that outside the Constitution there is no democracy." "I think that what happened in 2017, basically, is that some Catalan politicians have broken the laws, but not just any politicians," he added, to regret that after the PP and PSOE decided to "activate article 155" of the Manga Charter, only his party maintains "coherence" with that performance.

"What had to be done has been done, with the intensity that had to be done. The rule of law has been rebuilt and that is fundamental for the coexistence of the people," he declared, to emphasize that "the policy did not fail" but rather was "activated."

HE ASSURES THAT HE DIDN'T "SHUN OFF" THE PHOTO WITH ABACAL IN BARCELONA

One day after the massive demonstration in Barcelona against the amnesty organized by the Catalan Civil Society, Feijóo stated that he has not "shied away" from any photo with the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, nor has he "looked for it." Thus, he explained that SCC called on the political parties to support its call and added that everyone who wanted to be there was there.

Given the large presence of PP officials in this call, Feijóo explained that they wanted to demonstrate that they are with the "equality of citizens", "with democracy", "with the Constitution" and "with the given word." "We are with the Statute and with the electoral programs with which we have presented ourselves to the elections," he added.

When asked about the posters in the march with the face of Pedro Sánchez, Yolanda Díaz or Carles Puigdemont with a Hitler mustache and if he shares those images, he indicated that he has not seen them but he does not "like" them. "I am much more interested in words, I am much more interested in reasoning than in disqualifications," he stated.

BELIEVES THAT THE PP IS "RECONNECTING" WITH CATALONIA

Feijóo has admitted that Catalonia, along with Andalusia, is the community that he has visited the most in recent months, meeting with different civil society actors. "Therefore, Catalonia continues to be one of the priority autonomous communities for the Popular Party and I would say that it is a priority over the priority," he stated.

That said, he has indicated that the results of the last general elections - with the PP becoming the third political force "above nationalism and independence" - show that there is already "some indication", even if it is "modest", that They are "reconnecting with Catalonia."

To convince more Catalan voters, he has opted to speak about citizens' problems, such as mortgages, which have "grew by 300 euros a month" or energy due to the difficulties many families have in paying them. Furthermore, he has defended lowering taxes, especially when "Catalonia is one of the autonomous communities with the greatest tax pressure." "Catalans are the citizens with the greatest tax pressure in Spain," she stressed.
