Federal appeals court dismisses Trump's request to prevent his former advisers from testifying

MADRID, 4 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A three-judge panel of a federal appeals court on Tuesday dismissed a request filed by former President Donald Trump's legal team that sought to prevent a group of former White House aides during his tenure from testifying before a federal jury investigating attempts to to annul the 2020 presidential election.

Trump's team asked Monday night for the appeals court to overturn a lower court ruling that would force several of his top advisers, including Mark Meadows, the former chief of staff to the former president, to testify before a grand jury, according to CNN has reported.

Special counsel Jack Smith, who is behind this petition, is seeking testimony from figures close to the Trump Administration. Among the people who could testify, in addition to the aforementioned Meadows, there is also the former director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, the former National Security adviser Robert O'Brien or the former advisers Stephen Miller and Dan Scavino, among others.

Trump alleged that in the 2020 elections, in which the current president, Joe Biden won, there was voter fraud. On January 6, 2021, a mob of followers of the former president stormed the Capitol, killing at least four people and arresting more than 700.
