Etarras Mikel Barrios and Iñigo Gulina have accepted nearly two years in prison as heads of the ETA counterfeiting apparatus

MADRID, 11 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The ETA members Mikel Barrios and Iñigo Gulina Tirapu have accepted a sentence of 1 year, 9 months and one day in jail, plus a 9-month fine at a rate of 12 euros per day, as responsible for the counterfeiting apparatus of the terrorist organization, in the brief trial that was held this Tuesday at the National Court.

The oral hearing lasted just a few minutes because the two defendants have reached an agreement in accordance with the Prosecutor's Office for which they have accepted said sentence, with a three-year suspension, for a continuous crime of documentary falsification, according to legal sources. consulted by Europa Press.

It is a lesser sentence than the one initially interested in the Public Ministry, which was 3 years in prison, in addition to a special disqualification for the right to passive suffrage during the time of the sentence and a fine of 12 months at 20 euros per day. , with 6 months of substitute arrest in case of non-payment.

In its brief with provisional conclusions, the Prosecutor's Office reported that "during at least 2017 and integrated into the terrorist organization" Barrios and Gulina "collaborated with its technical-logistical structure, among whose purposes was the preparation of identity documents so that the members of ETA could move freely without being identified".

"And so, and in accordance with the guidelines set by the leadership of the terrorist organization and in execution thereof, both defendants moved their residence to Berlin (Germany) where in June and October 2017, respectively, they registered using the false identity documentation in order to avoid their correct identification," said the Public Prosecutor.

Thanks to the indications given by the Civil Guard regarding the criminal activities of the defendants, the letter continued, both "were arrested in Berlin on October 27, 2017, proceeding to search the aforementioned addresses, in which 5 CDs were seized , 1 DVD, 14 hard drives, 16 USB devices, 6 internal memories, 6 mobile phone terminals, 7 SIM cards and 33 memory and micro SD cards".

In addition, cash was seized from the accused at their homes: 3,760 euros to Mikel Barrios and 1,650 euros to Íñigo Gulina. Likewise, at the time of his arrest, Barrios was carrying an ID card and a false driver's license. Gulina, for her part, carried three mendacious driving licenses.

Barrios, 34 years old and from Pamplona, is a former member of Segi who was wanted --before his arrest-- for being part of a group that committed several sabotages in the Navarrese capital. As reported at the time by the Ministry of the Interior, it was the profile of a young man enrolled in ETA when the terrorist group already sensed his police defeat.

His name was included in the list of the most wanted ETA members in 2015, a year before the terrorist group announced the cessation of violence, along with other historical figures such as 'Josu Ternera' or Iñaki de Juana Chaos.

For his part, Iñigo Gulina Tirapu, 42 years old and from the Navarre town of Burlada, had been on the run since 2013 before being located in Berlin. He fled before being prosecuted for various acts of havoc for terrorist purposes, as well as illegal possession of explosive substances.
