Djokovic conquers Australia for the tenth time and equals Nadal

MADRID, 29 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has won his tenth Australian Open this Sunday, the first 'Grand Slam' of the season, after beating Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final in three sets (6-3, 7-6 (4), 7 -6(5)), which allows him to rise to number one in the world, raise the 'big' number 22 of his sports career and match the Spanish Rafa Nadal.

The Balkan, who went to his favorite contest as number five in the ATP ranking, needed two hours and 56 minutes to defeat the Hellenic tennis player again in a 'big' final, as happened at Roland Garros 2021 -where he managed to come back from 0 -2 in sets-, and to sneak back into the Olympus of world men's tennis.

By taking over from Nadal, champion in Melbourne in 2022, Djokovic was able to match the 22 'Grand Slam' titles of the Balearic Islands, all after raising his tenth win at the Rod Laver Arena (2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 , 2019, 2022, 2021 and 2023). Now, the two will share the historical peak of tennis, at least until Roland Garros.

In addition, with his victory - the tenth in the ten finals played in Melbourne - the Serbian regained the number one in the world, taking over from Murcia Carlos Alcaraz, who had risen to the top after winning the US Open 2022.

Full of confidence, 'Nole' jumped into the Rod Laver Arena and managed to break Tsitsipas' service in the fourth game, who had previously saved two 'break' balls, a blow enough to win the first set.

The Balkan missed the only chance to break in the second set and the resistance of the Greek, number four in the ATP ranking, forced him to play the 'tie-break', where the already world number one gave him no choice.

A break for each contestant marked the beginning of the final set, and again the tiebreaker dictated its sentence; the 5-0 start of the Serbian -which increases his balance to 10-2 with Tsitsipas- was almost definitive and Melbourne once again surrendered to the charm of its 'king'.
